Abstract

1,271,038. Smallware looms. CROMPTON & KNOWLES CORP. 10 Sept., 1970 [11 Sept., 1969], No. 43427/70. Heading DIE. On a loom with a selvedge latch needle 20, a magnet 28 is provided, which reciprocates with the latch needle 20 to open the latch 24 as the needle comes to engage the weft loop W, or a selvedge thread. On a two space smallware loom, a bar magnet may be used as shown to act on the two latch needles on the adjacent edges of the two fabrics 18. The latch needles may be arranged tilted about their axes so that the latches swing in planes at 45‹ to the horizontal.
