Abstract

1,270,275. Polyester cords. CELANESE CORP and FIBER INDUSTRIES Inc. 24 July, 1969, No. 37282/69. Headings D1F, D1T and D1W. In a process for the production of cords an underdrawn polyester multifilament yarn is singles twisted and plied with one or more underdrawn polyester multifilamentary yarns to form a cord which is thereafter subjected to a heat and tensioning operation wherein the final drawing is effected. The yarn may be initially cold or hot drawn. In a preferred embodiment, the final drawing is effected in a coating operation in which the cords are prepared for use as tire cords. The yarn is preferably of polyethylene terephthalate composition. The cord may be coated with an adhesive prior to being subjected to the final heat and tensioning operation.
