In air-ships of the Torres type, the metal parts ordinarilv used for connecting the fabrics constituting the lower edge of the envelope and for the passage of the internal suspension cords of the car are replaced by non-metallic parts, in order to avoid deterioration due to oxidation of the metallic parts in contact with the gas. Figs. 3 and 4 show a form of connexion for the fabrics 7, 9, 11, 12, Fig. 2, at the lower edge of the envelope. Each fabric is connected to a bolt-rope 20, in which are placed series of wooden rods 21 formed with collars 22, 23, and the whole is bound together around central cords 17, 18 by a series of small cords, one of which is passed between each set of collars 22, 23 and is fastened by threading a loop 24 at one end through a similar loop 25 at the other end and by then passing a cord 26 through the. series of loops 24. The apertures for the passage of the car-suspension ropes 15 are formed by thimbles 27, Figs. 5 and 6, of wood or other unoxidizable material. The cords 17, 18 are secured in grooves 28 at the sides of the thimble by bindings 29, and the wooden rods 21 are secured by cords 31 threaded through holes 30 in the thimble and fastened to cords 32 in the manner described above in connexion with the loops 24, 25 and cord 26.
