Abstract
187,327. Woodward, C. H. R. July 18,1921. Composite metallic and 4 non-metallic threads, fabrics with; wires and separate non - metallic threads, fabrics with; yarns specially twisted or doubled, fabrics with; asbestos fabrics.-In a vulcanizable fabric comprising metal and fibre threads in both the weft and warp, the weft consists of fibre threads 5, Fig. 4, turned about wire threads 4 in coils spaced apart from one another at intervals predetermined by the spacing of the warp metal wires 1, so that the warp and weft wire always contact at their crossing points. The warp may comprise parallel threads in sets of two fibre threads 2 and a single wire 1. In making fabrics for brake-linings where asbestos is used as the fibrous material, one of the fibre elements of the warp may be turned around the metal element of the warp. In a modification, a weft thread is used comprising a soft steel or other metal wire 10, Fig. 6, which is wound into long spiral convolutions and then one or two cotton or other fibrous strands are spun around the wire, each fibre element being given one turn around the wire for each convolution thereof, by arranging the feed of the spinning-machine.
