Abstract
1,269,705. Rotary flexible tube pumps. M. L. E. MALBEC. June 23, 1969 [July 5, 1968], No.31616/69. Heading F1F. A rotary machine of the flexible tube type, operating as a pump, compressor or vacuum pump comprises a flexible tube T, Fig. 2, which is clamped at its ends and pre-stressed to frictionally engage rollers 3 freely mounted on rods 2 interconnected by flanges 1, Fig. 1, having central apertures through which freely passes a motordriven shaft 4. There is slight clearance between the shaft 4 and the rollers 3 and due to prestressing the tube T, rotation of the shaft 4 causes frictional contact between the shaft and rollers to rotate the latter in the manner of planet gearing to produce cyclical pulsations in the tube. To prestress the tube an anchor-plate 5 through which the tube ends pass is screw-threadedly connected to a base-plate of the machine. The amount of prestressing may be adjusted to adjust the output of the machine. In another embodiment, the rollers 3A, Fig.3, are made as spool members having end flanges 11, frictionally engaging reduced diameter portions on the motor-driven shaft 4A and a hub portion 12 frictionally engaging the prestressed tube to give a two-stage speed reduction of the rollers with respect to the motor-driven shaft. The rollers may co-operate with a plurality of flexible tubes which are arranged to dynamically balance the forces acting on the rollers.
