Abstract

1,122,275. Rotary pumps and motors. E. MALBEC. Jan. 28, 1966 [Jan. 30, 1965; Jan. 12, 1966], No. 3969/66. Heading F1F. A rotary deformable tube pump or motor comprises a cylindrical cage rotatable about a central axis and having a plurality of freely mounted rollers distributed around its periphery against which a deformable tubular element is applied with sufficient contact pressure so that any fluid passing through the tube by successive compressions and expansions of the fluid is either pumped through the tube or creates a driving torque to rotate the cage. There may be a plurality of deformable tubular elements surrounding the cage connected either in series or parallel. A number of pumps or motors may be coupled together on the same or different shafts. In one embodiment, the deformable tubes are made of elastic material. In another embodiment, the tubes are made of non-elastic material, e.g. thin stainless steel sheet, which when the cage is mounted in a fluid-tight evacuated casing permits the restoration of the tubes between rollers to their normal cross-section due to the pressure difference internally and externally of the tube. One of the tubular elements may be used to evacuate the casing. The tubular elements may have a conical section in the longitudinal direction with the ratio of conicity sufficiently high to obtain a progressive variation in pressure of the fluid and automatic cooling of the elements.
