Abstract

1,268,786. Miner's shields; shores for trenches. A. R. S. MORRICE. 17 July, 1970 [17 April, 1969], No. 19561/69. Headings E1E and E1F. In a self-advancing, trench-shoring frame as described in the referred to Specifications 1,167,647 and 1,122,301 and comprising a pair of cross connected side walls 36, 38 for engaging the sides of a trench to define a protected working zone in the trench and a thermal plate 2 located at or adjacent the rear of the walls and coupled to the walls by one or more jacks 30, the leading end of the frame is such that there may be associated therewith means 46 enabling said end to be moved transversely of the longitudinal axis of the frame so making the frame steerable. The means comprises a frame-engaging plate 48 and a ground-engaging plate 50 separated by rollers 52 and movable relative to one another by a ram 54B extending therebetween. The means 46 is secured to the underside of the front of the frame when the front of the frame is raised from the ground on a vertically movable cross beam 50 housed within the front of the frame being moved down against the ground. Steering of the frame is also aided by the provision of universal joints between the thrust plate and the jack or jacks 30. Upward riding of the thrust plate when in use is prevented by a jack-actuated, pivoted plate 20 at the foot of the plate 2.
