Abstract

1,268,691. Rot proofing treatment of wood. CHEMISCHE FABRIK KALK G.m.b.H. 25 July, 1969 [27 July, 1968], No. 37471/69. Heading A5E. [Also in Division D1] The combustibility of wood and its tendency to rot is decreased by applying to the surface of the wood solid calcium chloride, solid magnesium chloride or a mixture thereof in powder or granular form. These chlorides may be blown onto the wood to be treated by means of compressed air, quantities of 0.15-0.6 kg/m<SP>2</SP> being suitable. Adherence is most marked if the particle size is less than lmm in over 80% by weight and is less than 0.3mm in over 60%. Since the chlorides are hygroscopic they rapidly attract moisture and form a solution and the penetration of this solution into the wood is encouraged if a wetting agent is added before application. The wetting agent may be present in an amount of 0.5-10% by weight and the one exemplified is nonylphenol-polyglycol ether. The invention finds particular application in wooden mine supports.
