Abstract

1387222 Rot-proofing wood CHEMISCHEFABRIK KALK GmbH 4 May 1973 [14 July 1972] 21366/73 Addition to 1364330 Heading A5E [Also in Division D1] A rot-proofing and flame-proofing composition comprises an aqueous solution containing 10 to 45% (preferably 20 to 35%) by weight of magnesium chloride and 0.1 to 3% (preferably 0.2 to 2%) by weight of a non-foaming and non-ionogenic wetting agent and is used for the impregnation of wood. The wetting agent may be an alkylphenolpolyglycolether, and must not form a foam in MgCl 2 solution or react with MgCl 2 to form insoluble or difficultly soluble products. The composition may be applied preferably by immersion or by spraying, or by painting with several coats. The treated wood may be for use in mines or houses and the process may be applied to timbers which are already fitted e.g. roof timbers.
