Abstract

Pistons; connecting-rods. - A piston suitable for internalcombustion engines is built up of two stamped or pressed frames with abutting diametrical webs a and semicircular end flanges b. A plate c secured to the flanges b forms the pistonhead. The parts may be secured together by riveting or welding &c. Cylindrical depressions j are formed in the webs a for the reception of the gudgeon pin which may be formed in one with the connecting-rod, as described in Specification 122,450. Oscillation of the connecting-rod is permitted by recesses k. A skirt c may surround the frames and be secured by tongues or teeth on flanges on the frames. The skirt may be grooved for the reception of packing-rings h. In a modification, the skirt is dispensed with, and a plate such as c is secured to the frames at each end of the piston. The plates are grooved for the reception of packing-rings which are retained by flanges.
