Abstract
1,268,009. Electrodes. PRODUITS CHIMIQUES PECHINEY-SAINT-GOBAIN. July 9, 1969 [July 10, 1968], No.34647/69. Heading C7B. An electrode, e.g. an anode for use in mercury cathode or diaphragm alkali metal chloride electrolysis cells, comprises a solid Cu or Al current input, e.g. an Al bar 2 carried by cylindrical Cu parts 5, and active portions comprising at least partly apertured sheets of a base metal or alloy having similar anodic properties to Ti, e.g. two Ti grid portions 1 produced by drawing sheets having parallel slots, which active portions are connected to the input by crimping the input to a part of the sheets, e.g. in grooves 3 where the input is fused to itself through apertures in the sheets, or to another similar sheet (13), Fig. 2 (not shown), connected by welding to the sheets forming the active portions. At least the active portions are covered with a noble metal or alloy resistant to electrolytic attack, e.g. a Pt group metal or alloy. The base metal or alloy may be of Ti, Ta, Nb, Zr or W. The input may be protected by a plastic e.g. PVC, polyolefin, or elastomer layer 9, or a sheath of the same metal e.g. Ti as the sheets.
