Wood flake-resin compositions are introduced into a pressure mould in a shaped envelope capable of retaining its shape when filled with said mixture prior to pressing. In this way, handling of the material and its introduction as a pre-shaped change, which pre-shaping is necessary to obtain articles having predetermined compression ratios at different regions, is facilitated. The envelope may be such as to be destroyed during the moulding, e.g. made of an uncured thermosetting resin, a cellulose derivative or a polyester, may form an undercoating to be subsequently coated, e.g. made of paper impregnated with phenolic resin, or may form a laminated final coating on the article, e.g. made of veneers or melamine impregnated paper layers.
