Abstract

1,267,746. Selective printing. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS GENERALES D'ELECTRICITE ET DE MECANIQUE. 26 Feb., 1970 [26 Feb., 1969], No. 9344/70. Heading B6F. A combination and aggregation type selection mechanism includes a plurality of cranks 25 selectively positionable in an up position as shown or a diametrically opposite down position, the cranks 25 each being coupled by a shaft 24a to a pinion 24 having two toothless sectors 24c, the pinions being normally held positioned as shown, by a spring urged member 241 engaging a flat 24d on the shaft 24, with the teeth 24b on the pinion 24 out of engagement with a toothed section 234 on a longitudinally slidable rack 23. When the position of one or more cranks 25 is to be changed, electromagnets 27e corresponding to those required to be in the up or " 1 " position are energized whereby a corresponding armature 27 engages a two armed lever 26 having toothed ends, the lever 26 being moved so that a toothed end moves either into the path of a projection 234c on the rack 23 (if the corresponding crank is in the down or " 0 " position) or out of the path of the projection 234c (if the crank is in the up or " 1 " position). The two armed levers 26 are each pivoted to a plate 24e fixed to a pinion 24 in the normally vertical diametral plane thereof. The rack is then slid, those levers 26 which are in the path of the corresponding projection 234c being engaged thereby and causing the teeth 24b of the corresponding pinion 24 to engage the toothed seetion 234 on the rack 23 and cause inversion of the corresponding crank 25. Cranks formally in the up or " 1 " position whose electromagnets have not been energized are also inverted. An operated armature 27 is initially latched into leverengaging position by a latch 271 which is disengaged by engagement with a boss 234e on the rack 23 when the rack is slid. The combination selective mechanism operates on a lever aggregation mechanism (Fig. 6) wherein each crank 25 is connected to a rod (2511-2514) which is in turn connected to an aggregation lever (281-283) one of which acts on selection mechanism which may be a toothed segment (282) acting on a pinion (291) mounted on a type wheel shaft for rotational selection, or may act through levers on a parallelogram linkage (39, Fig. 1A) for translational selection on a multiple type wheel printing carriage (5). A hammer carriage (394, Figs. 1A, 1B) causes impression.
