Abstract

1,160,165. Change speed control. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 29 Feb., 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14536/67. Heading F2D. In a manual gear slip mechanism of a motor vehicle gear-box, wherein a shift lever 10 pivotally mounted in a housing 12 is selectively engageable with parallel selector members 18, 20, 22, 24, a U-shaped stop plate 28, also pivotally mounted in the housing 12, is normally biased by a spring 32 to a lower position in which arms 34, 36 thereof obstruct a generally rectangular shift lever enlargement 26 to prevent shift lever engagement with the outer selector members 18, 24, and is liftable, by actuation of a Bowden cable (44) (not shown), against the spring bias, to an upper position in which the arms clear the enlargement to allow said engagement with said outer selector members. The selector members 18, 20, 22, 24 are provided respectively for Reverse and First, Second and Third, Fourth and Fifth, and Sixth (Overdrive). Pins 40, 42 support the arms 34, 36 when the latter are engaged by the enlargement 26. The stop plate lower position is determined by a pin 38. The Bowden cable (44) is connected to a finger trigger lever (not shown) adjacent the shift lever knob 48 and, at the other end, the cable sheath (46) is screwed into the housing 12.
