Abstract

469,810. Type-printing telegraphy. CREED & CO., Ltd., THOMPSON, A. E., and SALMON, R. D. Jan. 31, 1936, No. 2970. [Class 40 (iii)] The grid of a gas-filled discharge tube 5 is connected to the incoming line 1, 2 at contacts 6 for a brief interval in the middle of each signal - element period, and the anode circuit of the tube is associated in turn over successively-closed contacts 7A ... 7F With relays A ... F controlling respectively the magnets 13A.. 13F of a multi-magnet printer. At the beginning of a 6-unit code signal, contacts 6, 7G, 8 are closed and the start signal operates relay G to release the cam-shaft controlling contacts 6.. 9 for one revolution. At the end of the cycle contacts 9 are closed to operate the selected magnets and contacts 8 are then opened to unlock the operated relays. The magnets may control aggregatemotion apparatus as shown in Fig. 2 in which the rack 33 controlling the type-wheel is connected to link-mechanism 16..20 controlled by toothed segments 24.. 26 on the magnet armatures. The operation of each armature moves the associated gear-wheel 27..29 through 180‹ so that any back-lash is taken up on the dead-centre line and is not communicated to the armatures. Direct-current or voice-frequency alternating current signals may be used. Three magnets may as shown move the type-wheel in one direction and the other three move it in another direction, or all six may move it in one direction, or five may move it in one direction and the sixth produce case-shift. Specification 443,231 is referred to. The Provisional Specification also refers to Specifications 436,296 and 443,232.
