1,267,745. Selective printing. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS GENERALES D'ELECTRICITE ET DE MECHANIQUE. 25 Sept., 1969 [25 Sept., 1968], No. 47382/69. Heading B6F. Type-wheel machines tilting for impression.- A multi-type wheel teleprinting machine comprises a carriage 5 slidable and rotatable about a selector shaft 29, the wheels 531-536 being selectively moved in letter-space direction by a mechanism 3 and parallelogram linkage 39, 392 and 393 and the wheels being selectively rotated by the shaft 29 and selector mechanism 2. The carriage is letter-spaced by a further mechanism 4 and the wheels are tilted to effect impression by a striker carriage 6 which moves with the type-wheel carriage 5. The selector mechanisms 2 and 3 are generally similar, and the former comprises four electromagnets 281e, 282e, 283e and 284e which are operated in various combinations according to an incoming signal. At the same time a one revolution clutch drives a shaft 20 which reciprocates a lever 21. To this lever are connected two pairs of toggle links 22, 22<1>, connected to two racks 23, 23<1>, Fig. 2, engaging either side of a pinion 291 driving the shaft 29. Electromagnets 281e, 282e control a series of movable stops 241-243 sliding in a cage 24 which is movable by electromagnet 283e by a distance half that of the distance between stops 241-243. The fourth electromagnet 284e controls a switching member 26 which determines the direction of movement of the racks 23, 23<1>. Type-carriage and wheel construction.-The carriage comprises two flanges 51, 51<1> slidable and pivotable on the shaft 29 and itself bears two shafts 52, 56. Shaft 52 carries five hubs 522 and spacer washers 523. On the shoulders formed by each washer enclosed by two of the hubs 522 are five identical print members 53 comprising flanges 531, 531<1> interconnected by pins and struts 532, 533, 534. A type wheel 535 and toothed wheel 536 are riveted together and in mesh with a wheel 521 and a pinion 294 on the shaft 29. The printing members are swung for impression by a cam 641, Fig. 19, follower 621 forming a striker to engage a strut 534 of the selected print member.
