Abstract

1528260 Linkwork; change-speed control VOLVO PENTA AB 9 Nov 1976 [10 Nov 1975] 46496/76 Headings F2K and F2D A motor boat forward-reverse gear-shift control common to two alternative operating stations (not shown) enables the forwardreverse gear-shift (not shown) to be remotely selectively controlled from either one of the two stations. As shown, the two alternative operating input controls comprise Bowden cables 24, 24<SP>1</SP> and 25, 251 respectively, the cores 24, 25 of which are connected at the opposite ends of a link arm 13, 14 to the spindles 17, 18 of cam follower rollers 15, 16 carried by the link arm 13, 14, which rollers 15, 16 co-operate with fixed cam formations 9, 11 and 10, 12 on a stationary frame 1. An intermediate link 31 is connected at its end pivots 28, 36 to the central portion of the link arm 13, 14 and to the central portion of a swing arm 32, 33 which is pivotally connected at one end 37 to the frame 1, the other end of the arm 32, 33 being connected at 45 to a single output control Bowden cable 48, 48<SP>1</SP> the core 48 of which is connected to the forward/reverse gear shift. In operation, movement of either control cable core 24 or 25 causes the cam roller 15 or 16 associated therewith, at the end of the link arm 13, 14, to ride up its associated cam notch 11 or 12 to thereby lock the other roller 16 or 15 in its associated cam notch to serve as a reaction pivot for operation of the single gearcable 48 by either shift of the input control cables 24, 25 via the link 31 and swing arm 32, 33. Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) illustrate a very similar arrangement in which the fixed cam tracks are formed on a pair of fixed spaced frame plates (50, 52) with the intermediate link (65) and swing arm (33) arranged therebetween.
