Abstract
1,267,666. Burglar alarms. BROCKS GROUP OF COMPANIES Ltd. 11 July, 1969 [25 Oct., 1968], No. 50685/68. Heading G4N. [Also in Division H1] In a burglar alarm including a brittle tensioned coaxial cable comprising an inner conductor and an outer conductive sheath of hard drawn metal insulated from each other, preferably by MgO powder, fracture of either conductor or a short circuit between them actuates an alarm. The surfaces of the inner conductor, of copper, and the outer conductor, of copper/nickel alloy are roughened so that the MgO powder binds against them to inhibit stripping of the cable. The cable may be used in a door, wall, floor or ceiling or as a protective grid or bars, preferably horizontal, across a window. In the latter case the cable is threaded through tubes of Al, steel or plastics and is either formed as a continuous length annealed in regions where it is to be bent or formed as separate lengths connected in series whose ends are soldered to turret terminals, or screwed or crimped to terminals. The terminals are mounted on either side of the window on insulative strips enclosed in recesses in mating pairs of wood, metal or plastics battens. The pairs of battens are provided with magnetic detectors or frangible wires which operate an alarm upon an attempt to gain access to the terminals by separating the battens.
