Abstract

1,267,649. Braking for steering. IFA GETRIEBEWERKE BRANDENBURG-VEB. 21 July, 1970, No. 35233/70. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] In a vehicle having a combined hydraulic braking and steering system, the main brake cylinder 2 is coupled to each of the wheel brake cylinders 4, 4<SP>1</SP> via units 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which are also connected via an eccentric 15 to the steering wheel 16, the arrangement being such that on depression of the brake pedal 1 both cylinders 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are actuated, and on turning the steering wheel 16 only one of the cylinders 4, 4<SP>1</SP> is actuated thus effecting steering. Each unit 5, 5<SP>1</SP> has aligned cylinders 6, 9 containing spring loaded pistons 7, 10, the piston 7 normally abutting rod 19 integral with piston 10 and being connected to a push rod 11 coupled to eccentric 15. On depression of pedal 1 fluid is supplied via line 17 to the cylinders 9 of both units to move pistons 10 and thus pistons 7 whereupon both cylinders 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are actuated. On turning the steering wheel 16 a push rod 11 causes selective movement of only one of the pistons 7, fluid within the appropriate cylinder 6 being pressurized and acting via line 14 to actuate the associated wheel brake cylinder 4 or 4<SP>1</SP>.
