Abstract
1,267,148. Vibratory compactor. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. 4 Dec., 1970 [15 July, 1970], No. 57672/70. Heading A1B. A vibratory compactor has a ground engaging roller 10 in which a shaft 24 is centrally mounted and rotated by hydraulic motor 22. An eccentric weight 36 is fixed to the shaft and has a bolt 44 attached to it. A further eccentric weight 38, having a projection 42, is free to rotate. According to the direction of rotation of the shaft: the bolt 44 will either engage the edge of the movable weight and hold the weights in alignment, see Fig. 4; or engage the projection 42 and hold them in opposition, see Fig. 5. In order that the same centrifugal force is produced in each case, the former arrangement must have a lower rotational speed than the latter; the ratio of speeds depending on the choice of weights. Two speeds of rotation may therefore be used, while retaining the same centrifugal force, by reversing the direction of rotation of the shaft. The roller may be towed by a tractor 14 or be selfpropelled.
