Abstract

1,254,497. Roller. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. 31 July, 1969 [5 Aug., 1968], No. 38552/ 69. Heading A1B. [Also in Division F2] A soil-compressing mechanism comprises a transportable frame 19 caming a roller 13 which comprises a number of relatively movable foil-compressing parts, such as cylinders 22, which are arranged in a radially outermost region of the roller so as to extend longitudinally parallel to the axis of rotation. As shown, a pair of discs 20 rotate on shaft 14 and support a number of transverse rods 21 which serve to retain the cylinders 22. These have a large clearance on rods 21 and the sum of the diameters exceeds the circumference of discs 20. The frame may be supported by a tractor and driven by the p.t.o. in addition to a rotary hoe 2, fertilising means 11 and sowing means 12. Alternative embodiments of the soil compressing parts include separate drums of rollers on the same axis, T- section girders loosely mounted on axles and curved plates separated by toothed discs. In operation the roller is generally horizontal and may make an angle with the direction of travel of between 60 and 90 degrees.
