Abstract
1,266,288. Amphibious vehicles. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. 27 May, 1970 [27 May, 1969], No. 25375/70. Heading B7A. [Also in Division E1] An amphibious bridging vehicle has a pair of laterally extendable articulated float structures 6-8, the inner floats 6 of which can move from the inoperative Fig. 4 position to either of the operative positions of Fig. 5 or 7, by swinging through no more than 90 degrees. The floats are moved by fluid pressure rams (14, 16, 17) to provide the high buoyancy close coupling arrangement shown in Fig. 5, or the long reach arrangement of Fig. 7. To further reduce the width of the top of the vehicle, to facilitate its transport by rail, the floats are movable to the position illustrated in Fig. 14 (not shown). Float carrying section 1 is connected at its ends to wheeled steerable power units (3, 3<SP>1</SP>) adapted to drive the vehicle through either the road wheels, or pairs of contra-rotating propellers.
