Abstract

1,265,730. Printing processes; control by computer. NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP. 9 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 29129/69. Heading B6C. In a rotary printing press comprising multiunits and plate cylinders carrying a multicity of plates, control of the inking and/or the damping of each plate is effected by a computer which is supplied with the required data for any particular printing run from a teletypewriter. The newspaper press shown in Fig. 1, comprises printing units 10 each of which has a couple 10a and some of which have deck couples 10b. One of the units has a centre colour cylinder 10c and the press includes two folding units 11. There are a number of different adjusting stations through the press for controlling inking supply. To provide automatic control of these stations, a separate unit receiver "UR" or folder receiver "FR" is operatively associated with each unit and each of these receivers is operatively connected to one of two press consoles 12 and 13. Each console 12 and 13 receives input data from a teletypewriter 14 and a keyboard located on the console, and transmits electrical signals to selected receivers "UR" or "FR" to automatically effect desired adjustments at selected adjusting stations throughout the press.
