Abstract
1,264,844. Vacuum switches. INSTITUT PRUFFELD FUR ELEKTRISCHE HOCHLEISTUNGSTECHNIK. 26 March, 1969, No. 15758/69. Heading H1N. A vacuum switch comprises at least one arcquenching chamber formed by an inner wall 2a, a surrounding outer wall 2b and two end walls 2c, at least one contact set 3a, 3b being mounted in the sealed housing thus formed, and an axially movable actuator rod 8 guided within the space formed by the inner wall 2a but lying outside the sealed housing. As shown, the contact surfaces 3c are annular and shielded by inner and outer cylindrical shields 4a, 4b. One annular contact may, if desired, co-operate with a plurality of rod contacts. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the inner and outer walls of the sealed housing are formed by corrugated metal tubes which permit contact movement. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the inner and outer walls are formed partly from rigid insulating cylinders and partly from corrugated metal cylinders. The embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) is similar to Fig. 1, except that the corrugated cylinders 5a, 5b mounting the movable contact 3b is replaced by a metal diaphragm. In Fig. 5 (not shown), three insulated rod-type contact sets are equispaced in an annular housing, each contact set being provided with a separate cylindrical screen. Three arc-quenching chambers connected in series may be actuated by a common central actuating rod.
