Abstract
1,264,823. Coating underwater surfaces. PREPAKT N.V. 12 June, 1969 [13 June, 1968], No. 29980/69. Heading E1H. Apparatus for depositing a settable material, e.g. concrete, mortar or asphalt, to coat a subaqueous surface such as a canal bank, or slope, I that may have a layer of pebbles, aggregate or hard core 18 thereon, includes a flexible tubular-member 11 through which said material is poured from travelling hoppers 14 on a bridge 7 carried by a pontoon 3. The member 11 is supported by cables 10 secured to winding drums 13 and is ballasted by a rod or chain 17. The flow of said material is regulated by the pressure of the ambient water on the member 11. Distribution of the material is facilitated by partitions 11c. Transverse passages 11b reduced resistance to movement of the member 11 as the pontoon advances. A row of individual tubes may replace the member 11. The wall of the member 11 may comprise an outer heat-insulating layer, an electrically-heated intermediate layer and an inner heat-conducting layer. The member 11 may be replaced by a similar member 21, Fig. 2, in a rigid shell 22 so that it can be pressurized externally through a conduit 24.
