1,264,460. Methyl ethyl ketone. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSOHAPPIJ N.V. 29 Oct., 1970, No. 51517/70. Heading C2C. Methyl ethyl ketone with improved permanganate fading time and residual odour is prepared by contacting MEK prepared by dehydrogenation of see.-butanol at a temperature above 340‹ C., with hydrogen at 200-340‹ C. in the presence of a supported Group VIII noble metal hydrogenation catalyst. The feed ketone may be that contained in the effluent stream from its preparation and which also contains hydrogen, or may be worked up first.
