Abstract
1,263,926. Electric immersion heaters. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968], No. 24183/68. Heading H5H. The plastics mounting head 1 for an electric immersion heating element 4 is given a metal coating 6, which is impervious to the liquid to be heated, thereby preventing infiltration of the liquid, e.g. water, into the plastics material or tainting of the water by contact with the plastics material. The coating 6 is of electroplated nickel, chromium or copper or is deposited by other means as a nickel and/or chromium alloy. Holes 2, 3 in head 1 are for the element 4, and hole 5 is for a temperaturesensitive switch (not shown), an epoxide resin bonding agent sealing around these holes, which may be countersunk before the plating takes place. The head 1 is of glass-filled nylon, and is used for mounting the element 4 in a kettle (not shown), using threaded portion 1b. The metal coating could cover the element sheath to impart corrosion resistance thereto. Head 1 has a cover-plate (not shown) for the terminals, or the element ends provide prongs.
