Abstract

1,263,862. Pipe racks. JOS. DYSON & SONS Inc. 11 Feb., 1970 [12 Feb., 1969], No. 6602/70. Heading B8M. [Also in Division A4] An assembly for storing pipes or bars is made up of superimposed rack units each of which comprises a base member 1 with an upright column 7, 8 fixed at each end to form an upwardly open U-shaped structure, and means 15 fixed at the upper end of each column to removably receive the corresponding end of a base member of a superimposed similar rack unit. The base member 1 includes a horizontal web 4 with vertical side flanges 2, 3 and 5, 6. The upright columns 7, 8 each comprise a generally U-shaped member having a transverse web 9 and vertical flanges 10. The columns are fixed to the base member 1, as by welding, with the flanges 10 facing outwards. The members 15 comprise generally U-shaped members welded to the upper ends of the columns, with their open sides facing each other. The flanges 5, 6 of a superimposed rack unit seat in the members 15. In addition, a facing plate may be fixed within the member 15 at the top of the column. In a further embodiment, a filler member may be inserted to lie on the web of the base member and to project above the flanges 2, 3 of the base member to protect the material of the pipes or bars stored on the unit.
