Abstract

1,263,067. Control of D.C. motors. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 12 June, 1969 [17 June, 1968], No. 28641/68. Heading H2J. [Also in Division G3] A battery vehicle is driven by a shunt-wound motor 11 which is coupled to the wheels through a gear-box and associated clutch. The required armature current is determined by the setting of a throttle pedal and hence the position of a slider 14 connected to a comparator 16 which also receives a signal representing the actual armature current. The error signal is transmitted through amplifier 17 to vary the field current. The field winding 12 has a further feedback circuit comprising comparator 21 and amplifier 22. A device 23 limits the maximum field current, the maximum speed being limited by a detector 24 associated with variable minimum current limiter 25. The throttle pedal has a spring-loaded intermediate setting corresponding to zero armature current. Below this setting, the motor charges the battery. In another arrangement, the gear-box and clutch are replaced by an automatic transmission.
