Abstract

1,262,646. Hinge with safety check device. CODE DESIGNS Ltd. 19 May, 1969 [17 May, 1968], No. 23571/68. Heading E2F. A hinge for a window has a sash plate 1 secured to the exterior edge of the window stile and pivotally connected by a rivet 3 to a shoe 4 which slides in a groove 5 formed by bending over one longitudinal edge 6 of an elongated plate 7 attached to the inside of the window frame. Preferably the groove 5 is formed by bending over a longitudinal edge of a thin metal strip 9 which is fixed to the plate 7 and serves to stiffen the strip. A stay 16 is pivotally connected by rivets 14 and 15 to the plates 1 and 7, and link 11 is pivotally connected at one end to the lower end of the plate 1 by a rivet 10 and at the other end to a slider 13. A safety stop 17 pivotally attached by a rivet 18 to the plate 7 limits the travel of the slider 13. In a modification an adjacent bent over part of the edge 6 is cut away as at 19, so that the stop 17 is not displaced by contact with the slider 13. In a further modification the edge of the shoe 4 is provided with a curved surface which slides in a corresponding groove 5.
