Abstract

1,262,455. Moulding solid tyres. WATTS TYRE & RUBBER CO. Ltd. 15 April, 1969 [16 April, 1968], No. 17788/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B7] Each segment 1 of a solid tyre comprises a rubber or rubber-like material reinforced by natural or synthetic fibres arranged in random. Each segment may have a non-reinforced part 7 forming a part of the tread. The segments are held together by a tensile band 6 passing through a slot in each segment. The segments may be moulded or cut from a cured extrusion, in which latter case the slots are subsequently. punched out. In moulding, plies of the reinforced rubber are placed in a mould and alternate plies may be non-reinforced. Alternatively, the mould is filled with a mix of uncured rubber with the random fibres therein. Adjacent radial faces in the assembled tyre may be formed with interengaging projections and recesses. The axially-outer radially inner corners of each segment are recessed at 2 to engage a wheel.
