[Also in Divisions F2 and H1] A die, for forming a flat strip of flexible material, e.g. paper, plastics, into a tube with a longitudinal seam, e.g. for cable insulation, comprises a block of material 1 with a circular cross-section bore 2 and a transversely tangential communicating slot with decreasing depth from the input end to the output end, the slot wall 4 remote from the bore and the bore axis being mutually angled at the input end and parallel at the output end. The bore axis may be straight and the slot wall 4 curved, or vice versa. The strip of flexible material is fed into the input end and initially a helical seam is formed as the strip is guided by the slot wall 4 and is at an angle to the bore 2. As the angle decreases towards the output end, this seam tends toward a longitudinal seam which results at the output end. Alternatively, the slot wall 4 forms part of another circular cross-section bore, both bores following a curved path. Here the strip is initially at an angle to both bores. For multi-layer tubes, each bore increases in diameter to the output end, so that the initial layers are smaller than the succeeding layers.
