Abstract

1,261,407. Hydrogenation catalysts. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. 30 April, 1969 [1 May, 1968], No. 22012/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] A cobalt hydrogenation catalyst which may contain promoters such as copper, manganese, chromium and/or an inorganic polyacid e.g. phosphoric, molybdic, vanadic, boric, tungstic and sulphuric acid, as well as salts of such acids particularly sodium, magnesium, calcium and aluminium salts and may be supported on an inert support, is prepared by dissolving a cobalt salt such as cobaltous acetate, nitrate, chloride or sulphate with or without the salt providing the promoter such as cupric and/or manganese acetate, nitrate, chloride or sulphate and/or chromium nitrate or sulphate, in water (then the inorganic polyacid may be added), adding alkali metal hydroxide to precipitate metal hydroxides (optionally on a support) and subjecting the metal hydroxides to reducing conditions in hydrogen.
