Abstract

1,261,342. Hauling cable anchorage. SAMUEL LEWIS (WINCHES) Ltd. 12 May, 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 7206/68. Heading B8B. A hauling apparatus comprises a manually operated ratchet driven drum 9 for a haulage cable 30 mounted in a U-sectioned housing 1, the front of the housing being provided with an adjustable ground engaging member 5 whilst the rear of the housing is provided with an elongated member 2 on which an operator stands to hold the apparatus down in its ground engaging position during operation. The member 5 is slidably adjustable along a bar 34 pivoted to the housing 1 to vary the length of the member 5, a pin 36 locking the member 5 and bar 34 against the housing during use. During storage the member 5 and bar 34 are rotatable through 90 degrees about their longitudinal axis and then rotatable together with a cable guide 6 about an axle 25 into a position substantially within the housing 1, the elongated member 2 also being pivotable with the housing 1 and the housing end of the member has been uncoupled therefrom. With rotation of the drum operating handle 4 into the housing, a compact unit for transportation is formed. The cable drum 9 includes end flanges 9a, 9b formed with teeth engageable by a spring biased holding pawl 17 and an operating pawl coupled to the handle 4.
