Abstract
1,196,741. Breakdown cranes. H. E. FULTON, A. G. FOLLETT, J. H. FOLLETT, and A. G. FOLLETT, [trading as ROCKWOOD EQUIPMENT CO.]. 3 July, 1967 [14 June, 1966], No. 26397/66. Headings B8H and B8B. The cable of a winch assembly K on a breakdown trailer is selectively coupled either to a sling assembly D for lifting and towing a vehicle C, Fig. 3, or to the towing vehicle B whereby the trailer may be raised off the ground to its inoperative position, Fig. 1, the sling assembly having first been supported on hooks L on a frame E. The trailer is supported on a caster assembly J. The winch, Fig. 8, is operated by a handle 89 adapted to be mounted on either of shafts 84, 88 to provide alternative gearing. A drum locking pawl assembly comprises a pawl 93 adapted to engage a ratchet wheel 92 and pivotally supported at 94. A spring 97 coupled to the other end of the pawl is coupled to a member 100 which is adapted to be rotated through 180 degrees about a pivot 98 whereby the spring acts alternatively to hold the pawl in or out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 92 to prevent or permit respectively paying-out of the cable 66.
