Abstract

1,261,097. Explosive projectiles with electric fuzes. BREVETS ELECTRO-MECANIQUES S.A. 8 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 34358/69. Heading F3A. [Also in Division H2] An explosive projectile comprises an electric fuze 28 ignitable from a source of energy upon impact of the projectile, a support 2 for moving the fuze adjacent the explosive charge of the projectile, a conductive part 38 constituting a shunt of the current leads 27 and 33 of the fuze, and abutment means 34 for displacing the conductive part 38 against the action of a spring 39 so as to interrupt the effect of the shunt when the fuze is adjacent the explosive charge of the projectile. The energy source is constituted by a charged condenser 24 which is charged through a diode 23 by an electromagnetic generator. The generator comprises an armature 10, 11 with winding 12 and a core 14 constituted by a permanent magnet. A stud 19 short-circuits the condenser. Upon firing the projectile, the core 14 sets back, rupturing a disc 18 and withdrawing the stud 19, so that the condenser is charged by the generated current. The support 2 also sets back, rupturing a disc 3 and is subsequently moved forward by springs 8 and 9. Engagement of a stud 41 in a zig-zag groove 40 delays this movement. When the abutment means 34 first reaches an electrical contact 43, 44, inadvertent closure of the firing circuit prior to impact merely results in the harmless discharge of the condenser through the conductive part 38 and the abutment means. However, in normal circumstances, when the fuze reaches its final position, the abutment means 34 lifts the conductive part away from the current leads and thereby permits firing of the fuze upon impact.
