Abstract

1,260,944. Web-drying apparatus. SOC. D'ETUDES ET DE VENTE DE MATERIELS POUR LA FABRICATION ET LE FACONNAGE DU CARTON ONDULE-MARTIN. 1 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 22283/69. Heading F4G. [Also in Division G1] In an apparatus for drying webs, e.g. of corrugated cardboard, the web 4 is moved over heating chests 3 under the pressure exerted by a continuous belt 6 loaded by rollers 11, each roller 11 being connected to one or more pneumatic rams 15 for adjusting the contact pressure of the web on the heating chests 3. The rams 15 are supplied with compressed air via a pressure control valve 20 and a line 19, to vary the contact pressure in response to the speed of strip movement. The pressure of the gas supplied by the valve 20 is varied by an adjusting rod which is connected to a servomotor 22 through a series of gear-wheels. A potentiometer 33 connected to the shaft of gear-wheel 28 reflects the position of the rod as a voltage which is compared with the voltage produced by a tachometer dynamo (43), Fig. 4 (not shown), connected to a motor (42) moving the strip, in an electronic voltage comparator (44) of the regulating circuit. Depending on the sign of the voltage difference a reversing switch (41) operates the servomotor 22 to set that position of the rod which produces a balancing voltage on the potentiometer. The rod may also be adjusted manually by a spindle 31 having a calibrated dial 32.
