1,260,799. Mechanical switches; casing assemblies. SWF-SPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU G.m.b.H. 2 July, 1970 [4 July, 1969], No. 32067/70. Heading H1N. A vehicle steering column switch assembly in a common housing 10 mounted on the column tube 12 and comprising a direction indicating switch unit 25 operable by lever 20 with automatic return and an annular switch assembly 35, 36 mounted on the unit 25 and operable by a second lever 30 for actuating the windscreen wiper and washing installation. The second lever 30 has an annular end 34 slipped over a ball detent and stop ring 34 engaged by spring loaded ball 32. The lever 30 may be rotated about the axis of the column 11 and carries a projection 42 engageable with an annular bridging contact assembly 38 movable over fixed contact plate 39 loaded by spring 40. Three positions located by the ball 32 and detent 34 assembly for "off", "high speed" and "low speed" wiping are referred to. The lever 30 may also be pivoted about knife edge 24 to depress plunger 33 controlling the washer. Turn indicator control lever 20 is cranked to bring it into the same general plane as that of the lever 30 and may also be tilted upwardly on its pivot pin 21 for closing contact assembly 24 of an optical warning system.
