Abstract
1,260,623. Wrenches. COOPER INDUSTRIES Inc. 8 April, 1970, No. 16721/70. Heading B3N. A power-driven wrench has a housing 22 with a rotatable socket 39 mounted at one end, the socket having a slot 37 which can be aligned with a slot 44 in the housing; a motor is housed in housing 31 and is drivingly connected to the socket by a drive train in which there is an arrangement whereby when the motor is stopped after a fastening operation and the socket is moved off the fastener, the socket is caused to rotate in the direction of fastening until the two slots are aligned so that the wrench can be removed from a tube to which the fastener is attached. The motor drives a spindle 55 which drives a main drive gear 57 via a drive pin 59 and a lug (62), Fig. 3 (not shown) on the gear 57. A clock spring 67 also interconnects spindle 55 and gear 57 and biases pin 59 into engagement with the non- driving side of the lug 62. Thus, when the motor is started the clock spring 67 is wound up. However, there is no movement of the drive train due to a catch 78 fixed to gear 72 abutting a detent spring 76. This spring does not affect rotation of the socket 39 once pin 59 drivingly engages the lug (62). After a fastening operation, when the motor is stopped the slot 37 may not be aligned with slot 44. But when the socket is moved off the fastener the clock spring causes the main drive gear 57 and thus socket 39 to rotate in the same direction as for fastening until catch 78 abuts detent spring 76. In such a position the two slots are aligned.
