Abstract

126,026. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buchham, Sir G. T. Oct. 28, 1916. Ordnance design; breech mechanism.- Relates to guns in which the recoil is eliminated by the rearward discharge of a compensating mass, and in which to open the gun for loading, a movable portion of the barrel is unlocked, moved rearwards and then swung laterally witn respect to a fixed portion of the barrel. The invention consists in providing a .spring-controlled striker and means, operated by the device that unlocks the movable-barrel portion, for retracting the striker before any unlocking movement of the barrel portion occurs. The trigger which operates the sear is mounted on the hand-grip of a training- arm on the fixed barrel portion. The invention is shown applied to a recoilless gun of the kind described in Specification 126,025, in which the barrel portion B is unlocked, moved rearwards, and then swung aside on a spindle B<1> with respect to a fixed barrel portion A through the agency of a sleeve C rotated by a hand-lever B<x>. According to the present invention, the sleeve C is also provided with a cam groove E which operates through pin E<1>, link E<2>, bell-crank lever E<3>, rod e<1>, and lever e<2> to first retract the sleeve D<x> carrying the striker D and then to cock the striker into engagement with a sear f<4>. The sear is operated through a sliding rod f<1>, bellcrank lever f<2>, and link f<3> by a trigger f arranged nn the hand-grip of a training-arm F mounted on the trunnion F'. The lever e<2> is provided with a handle c<x> for hand cocking, during which operation the rod e<1> moves through the arm of the lever E<3> against the action of a spring e.
