Abstract

1,258,812. Nerve stimulators. WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd. 3 Jan., 1969 [5 Jan., 1968], No. 564/69. Heading A5R. [Also in Division H3] A nerve stimulator comprises a power supply, an oscillator having a single transistor VT1 and a variable impedance timing network R1 to R4 and Cl, and a transformer having a first primary winding W1, a second primary winding W2 in circuit with the transistor base and through which a current induced by current flow in winding W1 is passed by way of a positive feed-back loop to said base, and a secondary winding W3 connected in series with a gas discharge lamp LP1 and providing output pulses having a repetition rate in the range 1 pulse/10 secs. to 50 pulses/sec. By selectively switching resistors Rl to R4 into or out of circuit pulse rates of 1 pulse per 10 secs., 1 pulse/5 sees., 1 pulse/sec. or 50 pulses/ sec. are attainable. The lamp LP1 serves as a visual indicator of the presence of an output pulse and to limit the voltage across potentiometer RV1 which is used to adjust the output pulse voltage.
