Abstract

1,258,172. Interferometers. MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM G. m. b. H. Oct.24, 1969 [Nov. 6, 1968], No.52345/69. Heading G2J. An interferometer measuring angular velocities by the Sagnae effect comprises a single spool 30 made from optical glass fibres located at the output of a coherent light source 20, and a beamsplitter 21 located between the light source and the spool whereby a part of the beam strikes each end 31, 32 of the spool, the beams then being recombined at the beam-splitter after leaving the spool. The end-faces of the spool are ground to an angle which reduces reflection of extraneous light which may otherwise enter the measuring system.
