Abstract

1,147,083. Optical apparatus. JUNGNER INSTRUMENT A.B. March 4, 1966 [March 10, 1965], No.9499/66. Heading G2J. In order to protect the eyes of an observer using an optical instrument, such as a rangefinder, from the damaging effects of laser beams operating in the red and infrared regions of the spectrum, the beam path to the eye-piece 4, Fig.1, includes a light-reflecting surface, which as shown is the interface of a double prism 3, 5, the surface being coated with an interference filter so that visible radiation is reflected and red and infrared radiation is transmitted. The laser beam is absorbed by an element 6, which, in a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) actuates a visible or acoustic warning device. The reflective surface may have a glass member cemented thereto which is in the form of minute prisms.
