Abstract
1,258,097. Push-button switches. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 14 May, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 24548/69. Heading H1N. A push-button switch has a cantilever spring carried by a slide member, the free end of said spring acting on a pivoted member mounted in the switch housing and carrying movable contacts co-operating with stationary contacts mounted in the housing such that when the slide is moved the free end of the cantilever spring traverses the pivoted member across its pivot axis and actuates the contacts. As shown, a housing comprising two parts 6 and 7 accommodates a slide 2 having a retraction spring 3, and two pins 4 and 5 fixed in the housing to pass through an aperture 19 in the slide limit the travel of the slide. Contact pins 48 ... 59 extend through the housing to form fixed contacts and also the pivots for cooperating resilient moving contacts 60, 61, 62 and 63. Four cantilever springs, such as 65, are fitted into suitable recesses in opposite faces of slide 2 such that their free ends, such as 68, rock respective moving contacts as the slide is moved. The slide 2 has a recess on one side provided with a "heart"-shaped boss (70, Fig. 3, not shown) to co-operate with the end 45 of a wire spring 41 which may be clipped on to housing part 7 to provide a switch of the successive actuation or "push-push" type. Several switches may be assembled together by means of a projection 26 having a hole 36 through which a contact pin 53 of an adjacent switch may extend. The springs 41 may be omitted and a known interlock mechanism provided, comprising a bar cooperating with lateral surfaces 80 on slides 2. A lamp (not shown) may be fitted between resilient blades 31 and 32 which are thereby forced into contact with pins 4 and 5 providing alternative electrical connections to the lamp. A cap 78 fitted on the end 76 of slide 2 may have a lens 79 to pass light from the lamp. The switch may be mounted on a U-shaped bracket (not shown) by means of grooves such as 9, 10, 13, 14 in the housing.
