Abstract

1,256,746. Transferring measured quantities of liquids. AUTOKEMI A.B. 21 Jan., 1969 [25 Jan., 1968], No. 3306/69. Heading B1X. [Also in Division F1] Apparatus for transferring a measured quantity of a liquid. sample from, e.g. one set of test tubes 1 to another set 2, and supplying thereto a further measured amount of a liquid reagent comprises a spring biassed piston and cylinder 10, 11 operated by a compressed air source 13 under the control of a valve 14 and control means 15. Descent of the piston 10 effects descent of a rod 9 attached thereto, thereby drawing liquid sample into a cannula 6 whereupon the apparatus is moved sideways. Compressed air then effects ascent of the piston 10 causing the rod 9 to expel the sample and to unseat a valve 19 whereafter the control means 15 activates a valve 22 causing communication between liquid reagent pump 21 and conduit 20. A predetermined amount of reagent then passes to the liquid sample via cannula 6. Liquid reagent may pass via conduit 26 arranged coaxially with cannula 6 to raise its exterior. The stroke of the piston 10 and hence the displacement of the rod 9 and the amount of sample withdrawn is determined by a fixed plug 28 and an adjustable screw stop 16. Air vent 18 is provided in the cylinder 11.
