The back 11, of a chair is pivoted at 23 and controlled by a torsion spring 23. The pivot 23 is carried on a frame 13 fixed to a base 12. In modifications (not shown) the seat bottom is also resiliently supported, either to tilt as a unit with the back or independently of the back.
