Abstract

1,255,762. Electro-photography. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. Feb.3, 1970 [Feb.3, 1969], No.5133/70. Addition to 1, 255, 763. Heading G2H. In the production of a printing plate using a dispersion of gelatine in carrier liquid as electrostatic latent image developing agent, the dispersion is produced by (a) dispersing a 1-20% aqueous solution of gelatine (optionally containing an alcohol in an amount insufficient to cause precipitation of the gelatine) in an organic solvent which is miscible with water but is a non-solvent for gelatine to form a dispersion of gelatine particles, (b) adding to the dispersion a solution of a resin which is insoluble in the organic solvent but soluble in the carrier liquid to form a coprecipitate of gelatine and resin, and (c) adding the co-precipitate to the carrier liquid. The proportion of solvent to gelatine solution may be 10-300. The organic solvent may be dimethyl or methyl ethyl ketone or ethyl alcohol. It may contain a vegetable oil or surface active agent. Dispersion in the organic solvent may be effected by ultrasonic or high-speed stirring. The resin may be polyisobutylene, polybutylene, polystyrene, styrene-butadiene copolymer, or a resinmodified phenol-formaldehyde resin. The resin solvent may be xylene, toluene, or methyl, ethyl or butyl acetate. The co-precipitate may be separated by decantation followed by centrifuging. The carrier liquid may be cyclohexane, kerosene, heptane, hexane or gasoline. It may contain a viscosity regulator or non-ionic surface active agent.
