Abstract
1371580 Photographic direct-positive silver halide emulsion containing a colour coupler FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 4 Sept 1972 [4 Sept 1971] 41010/72 Heading G2C A photographic direct-positive emulsion contains dispersed in a hydrophilic colloid binder chemically fogged silver halide grains having substantially no free electron traps (determined by tests described in the Specification involving exposure and development of coated emulsion samples one of which is degassed for longer than 17 hours at normal temperature under a reduced pressure of 10<SP>-4</SP> mm. Hg. or lower and comparing data derived from the characteristic curves obtained) and having adsorbed on the surface of the grains an electron acceptor having a watersoluble anionic group or an anionic group that can form a betaine structure, and globules having a mean diameter of less than 1 micron of a hydrophobic or oil soluble colour coupler. The coupler may be dissolved in tricresyl phosphate for example, added to an aqueous gelatine solution, an aqueous solution of sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate may be added and the coupler dispersed using an ultrasonic oscillator give a mean globule diameter of 0.12 micron (see Experiment 2). The silver halide grains may have a mean grain size of 0À04 to 2 microns. The electron acceptor may have at least one sulpho, carboxyl, phosphoric, sulphoalkyl or carboxyalkyl group. The emulsion has high sensitivity and clear highlight portions are obtained in materials containing these emulsions.
