[Also in Division A4] Apparatus for comminuting frozen meat comprises two parallel cutter shafts 3 carrying a plurality of axially spaced cutting elements, the cutting elements on one shaft being axially staggered with respect to those on the other shaft and overlapping them in a transverse direction, peripheral points on the shafts rotating towards one another at a meat receiving position, and each cutting element comprising a disc or hub 8 carrying one or at most two sawtooth- or hook-shaped teeth or blades 9 of approximately the same thickness as the width of the spaces between adjacent teeth or blades on the same shaft. The cutting elements are individually secured on the shafts but are axially clamped together on each shaft. Reduced diameter extensions 10 of the hubs 8 space the cutters apart. The cutters 9 of the hubs 8 on the same shaft may be aligned or angularly spaced around the respective shaft axis. A cutter 9 of one disc on one shaft engages the material to be comminuted at the same time as a cutter on an adjacent disc on the other shaft. Shafts 3 are driven by a motor (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), via a V-belt 5 and worms on a shaft (6) driving worm wheels (7) on shafts 3. Material is fed in via, a hopper 2 arranged above the shafts 3, and may be discharged through a bottom opening in a housing 1 into a collecting car below the shafts.
