1303406 Chipping and shredding apparatus OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc 17 Sept 1971 [7 Dec 1970] 43505/71 Heading B5L A chipper shredder apparatus comprises a chipping and shredding assembly 8, Fig. 5, arranged to be rotatably driven within a housing 36, Fig. 2. The assembly 8, includes a plate 12 mounted for rotation about an axis normal to the plate, a chipping knife 16 mounted on a face of the plate, and shredding blades 22 mounted for rotation about the same axis and extending beyond the periphery of the plate. A first hopper 66, Fig. 2, directs material to be chipped through an opening in the housing 36 to the face of the plate 12 and into the pathway of the knife 16, and a second hopper 68 directs material to be shredded through an opening in the housing 36 to the periphery of the plate 12 and into the pathway of the shredding blades 22. The apparatus is primarily intended for chipping branches, and shredding twigs and leaves. As described the plate 12, Fig. 5, has a slot 20 which receives chips cut by the blade 16, and the blades 22 are pivotally mounted on pins 24 extending between the plate 12 and a parallel plate 14. The upper ones of the blades 22 have upturned end portions and the lower ones are either midway between the plates 12, 14 or adjacent the plate 14. The blades 22 co-operate with deflectors on the inside of the housing 36. The assembly 8 is mounted on a shaft 10, Fig. 2, driven from a motor 50. The chipped and shredded material is discharged from the housing 36 by centrifugal force into a discharge shoot.
